ABOUT ME

   My name is Tommy O, I am a Cuban American, born and raised in Miami Florida. Art has been a lifelong pursuit beginning early in my childhood. Ever since, I've been working to advance my abilities in the spirit of the Renaissance painters. I've always been mesmerized by the human figure and mind and as such, is my main subject matter. 

I have exhibited at galleries including Les Couleurs, Art Club, as well as received awards such as Scholastics silver key and honorable mention, and have been featured on Artistcloseup .

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is about representational narratives, either in realistic depictions like portraiture or Surreal "Dream-scapes." I aim to not just paint what something is, but what it feels like. Like a memory, visualized using a balance of soft and hard, defined and obscured brush strokes, and abstraction, combining influence from the Renaissance and impressionist painters.

My surreal work is based on stream of consciousness and natural impulse. Through a unison of my external and internal environment, I piece together a vision like visual poetry, creating associations from typically unrelated items, forms, or things. However, no subject or component is random, but what my consciousness felt needed to be represented. my goal is not to create work devoid of meaning, but to create mirrors, reflecting the ego of the viewer, pulling on the human need/desire to find meaning and pattern.
